cardiff in flames

Holy fuck my college ipod playlist has come to life and decided to tour the uk! Rise against Thursday and poison the well are coming to the UK for 5 dates (including cardiff!) in november. All three of these bands are fucking awesome! Maybe more so in past years, but what the fuck they are still going to play their old songs right? This show is going to be sold the fuck out pretty quickly so I'd grab your tickets soon, for the Cardiff show you can buy tickets here . Below is a reminder of why these bands are so awesome:

The decline of western civilization

I really do not get why anybody would find getting this wasted fun! It's fucking disgusting, this weekend binge drinking culture is turning men into primitive apes and women into uninhibited cum dumpsters. Why certain people are unable to enjoy alcohol and drugs in moderation is beyond me, this does not happen in other countries so why here? These pictures were taken by polish photographer Maciej Dakowicz in my home town of Cardiff, in a recent newspaper article maciej, who has spent the last 4 year documenting british nightlife, commented:

"Everywhere I go I like to take pictures of the people and surroundings. I had never seen such scenes in Poland or any other country I had visited before. What I have seen in my time in the UK has been something completely new to me."

Maciej is releasing his photographs in a book called Cardiff at night.

Check out Maciej's flickr here.

Free agents is a 6 part comedy series that aired in march of this year. I decided to give it a watch because Matthew Holness (Garth marenghi's dark place) plays one of the characters in the series and he is a funny funny guy! The series as a whole is not amazing but it does have some really funny laugh out loud moments usually involving Anthony head. Here is the whole series give it a watch if your bored and in the mood for some non cringey rom com laughs:

Deep elm records have released another awesome free 16 track sampler of all of their new bands! The sampler is called bonfire of trust and features bands like moving mountains, dartz! and ride your bike. They are also offering up a new emo is awesome emo is evil compilation that has classic tracks by appleseed cast, camber and sounds like violence on it! check them out here. Here are some of my favourite tracks from the two compilations:

Sounds like violence- you give me heart attacks

Fire divine- Reputation outlives application

Track a tiger- Light (I'm a sucker for the french language)

Speaking about me being a sucker for the french language, you know when you see somebody, in a band or in a magazine or on the Internet and you just think to yourself, Man If only I could meet that person and speak to them then I just know......I KNOW that I would be able to kidnap them, hide them under my bed and make them my wife. Only joking I do love me some coeur de pirate though! Her voice is like pure silk and I can't think of anything better to listen to on a Sunday afternoon. If she does not tour the UK soon I'm moving to Canada so I can stalk and kidnap her there........kidding kidnap is wrong please don't arrest me. Check out her myspace here.

Eastbound and down is a new TV series starring and written by Danny McBride. It's about this washed up pro baseball player who after falling from grace has to move back to his home town to live with his brother and his brothers family. If you like Will Ferrell style comedy you will fucking love this! Check out some clips from the show below:

GOD MUST BE LAUGHING DOWN AT ME....Ha Ha Ha

THEY WERE SO FUCKING GOOD! Highlights were definitely, red handed sleight of hand straight into art is hard, the martyr (so good!) and the last song before their encore, what have I done, such an epic way to end their set! If you like the above poster for the cursive show it was done by my (inbetweeners voice) friend, Check out his awesome blog here.

CURSIVE- WHAT HAVE I DONE?

Check out these rad poster designs for the recent gallows tour. Artists and illustrators were recently asked to create a poster for each date of the tour, some of the artists involved include Luke Drozd, Dan Mumford, Drew Millward, Graham Pilling (pic directly above) Gavin beattie (1st pic) and tape ears (middle pic) all of the works are available as limited-edition prints.
Check them out and buy them here.

Oh Bianca, Sierra, how I love your head space, if more people thought like you the world would be a nicer place to live in. Cocorosie have been an obsession of mine for a while, not just their music but the whole mythology that surrounds the two sisters. Bianca and Sierra were born in iowa, their mother was an artist who constantly moved the sisters around the country and their father, a teacher, was involved in shamanism and the native american peyote religion. After losing contact with each other they eventually met up again in paris where Sierra had been training to be an operatic singer and the pair recorded their first album la masion de reverie in her bathroom! Read up about them here, have a look at biancas art here, check out this recent interview here, listen to their new/ish track below and watch the youtube video.

Brand new have announced they have started mixing their new album with Dave Sardy and are expecting to release it this summer!

One of my new favourite Cardiff bands, Samoans, have been in the studio and recorded an amazing 5 track demo. Dan, tal and calvin make up samoans who sound a bit like early hopesfall crossed with american football/ghost and vodka with the vocals of a young simon neil. Their music is definately the culmination of lots of different influences and their live show is full of passion and energy. Their whole demo is available to listen to on their myspace and also check out dan's other band circa regna tonat here.

Samoans- Neon Tentacle

Talking about ghosts and vodka a reformation may be in the works this recently went up on their myspace:

I am not proccessed meat!

Hey blogger I'm a real person not a robot honest! I've been flagged as spam for some reason so please just ignore the message that pops up when entering my blog I'm sure it'll get shorted soon.

brown paper white paper stick em together with the tape.....

.....The tape of loooove! Mark khaisman created these fucking stunning pictures using nothing but sticky tape!!! Time consuming and I can imagine extremely frustrating (loosing the end), mark layers sticky tape onto plexi-glass panels to create pieces that look like what I imagine neo would have seen in the matrix had he been slightly colour blind. Check out the rest of his work here.

Went to the pop punk party at the old blue last week, nostalgia ensued........
I haven't heard some of the tracks they played in ages and it made me weep with joy and sweat.....mostly sweat. So here is a run down of the albums that I remember getting played

Walked in the place after being thoroughly search by the doorman (my friend almost didn't make it inside due to some "suspicious looking" vitamin tablets he had on him!) and they were playing ruby Soho! Not pop punk at all but still awesome tune got me singing straight away and reminded me how much I love rancid. I bought out come the wolves at the age of 14 whilst holidaying in Florida, every time I listen to this album it reminds me of hot sun, Florida beaches and being young, completely awesome summer album!
get it here.

They played loads off this album which was fine by me! Holiday and action &action had me singing the loudest though!
find it here.

You vandal was in my head alllllll fucking day so when they played it I almost fell out of my seat. goood times! This is probably my favourite saves the day album as it definitely captured the band at it's best and with the best line up!
Find it here.

Classic classic album got me and a whole generation of kids through high school. I love the lo-fi charm of this album something that the band seemed to lose as they got bigger, in my view definitely one of their best albums!
find it here.

"I keep on laughing and you're keeping track and tonight I'll go back to the place I first knew that I'd wait for you always on streets and in doorways where engines they die near the northeastern line and you mentioned a record that reminded me of a week that you couldn't get things out of your head" I heard this from outside whilst having a cigarette, ran inside, high fived the DJ and lost my shit! I love lifetime.
find it here.

The night was fucking awesome I'm definitely going again next month the only thing that pissed me off is the fact the DJ had no brand new! A pop punk night with no brand new...honestly!?!? Just to be clear I have not uploaded any of this music I just found links to these albums on other blogs mmmmmmkay:?

Will Arnett is fucking awesome.

Solutions are a 3 piece punk rock band from Cardiff, who as well as being a fucking rad band are awesome guys to boot! The band, who sound like tom gabel fronting, won era, as friends rust boiling in a pot of hot water music (check out my creative writing pun skillz) are one of the most refreshing punk bands to come out of Cardiff in a long time. They have just finished recording a few tracks with carl bevan which I believe they will be releasing soon as an e.p. which everyone should definitely buy! Here's my favourite track of theirs:

Solutions-I fight tigers

The above pictures are not photographs they were all made using ballpoint pens!
spanish artist Juan Francisco Casas uses ball point pens to recreate photos he's taken on canvas. Check out his work here.

Thomas Allen from Minnesota creates these pictures using cut outs from old pulp fiction paperbacks. Check out his noir photographic narratives here.

DRUGS ARE NOT BIG NOR CLEVER

The Ped and Joe show are an acoustic act from Cardiff who write catchy as fuck dashboard confessional tinged tunes. Check out their myspace here and also their full band project Iamhope here.
Here's my two favourite songs:

PED & JOE SHOW- THE WORST DAY

PED & JOE SHOW- FOREVER ENDEAVOUR

Cursive are playing in my town this week! Cursive are an indie rock band from Omaha on saddle creek records. They formed in 95 and since then have released 7 albums, my favourite being domestica, which is a concept album built around the subject of breakups/divorces. Tim kasher who fronts the band is also in a band called the good life who are an awesome acoustic centered folk band check them out here.
